Spectating Formula
Designed by Martin Lai
2022
Current Formula One races organize spectators along track boundaries on stands or general admission areas without seats. Fans are forced to make decisions between better view and mobility. Neither provides a good and satisfactory live experience. ‘Spectating Formula’ is a project to democratize the racing experience to all spectators. Viewing spots are spatially organized by a visibility scoring algorithm. The result is a visual-driven landscape and structures and buildings for spectating the Formula race in Laguna Seca, California. The spectating network enables fans good viewing spots and a new spatial experience with better relation to the race and the spectacle.
